PARISH LIFE / CHURCH
EVENTS
Wednesday
Nights
We gather in Jones Hall for dinner, fellowship and programs ranging from
Bible study to bluegrass music to Choral Evensong. We close with Compline.
(Click here to see our current
programs)
Kids' Night Out
The Catholics, Methodists and Episcopalians alternate in the planning
and location of these evenings which are an opportunity for parents to
have some free time, knowing that their children are in good hands. The
hours are from 6:00 to 9:00 and the charge is $5.00. The evenings are
for children in nursery school through fifth grade. They have snacks and
planned activities as well as story and Bible readings.
Family
Fun Night
One Wednesday night a month the children go to our local nursing home
with board games to play and dessert to share with the residents.
Thanksgiving
Our local churches work together to give a dinner for the community with
each church doing a certain part of the preparation and those tasks rotate
each year. These dinners are held at the Highlands Recreational Park on
the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
Advent
and Christmas
Our Wednesday nights are used to decorate our Chrismon tree in Jones Hall
and to assemble "Cheer Baskets" for those in our parish who
are shut-in or have had a difficult year. Volunteers deliver those baskets.
We also request names from the International Friendship Center and the
Highlands Emergency Council in order to gather gifts to fill the needs
of those on the list. The greening of the church is another parish event
and later, the de-greening. We also have an evening of Lessons and Carols.
(and sometimes a visit from St. Nicholas)
Summer Chapel Picnic
The Summer Chapel is a seasonal church that is supported by Incarnation
and Good Shepherd. Summer chapel is located in Horse Cove, a community
between Highlands and Cashiers. Each summer these two Episcopal Churches
co-sponsor this popular event.
Lent
We are offering evening prayer of various styles in the chapel at 5:30.
Wednesday nights we will have a light supper with a program following on
prayer. The Adult Education offering will be led by the rector.
Feast Groups
Incarnation offers the opportunity to meet others in informal dinner
settings throughout the year through participation in “Feast Groups”
which meet once a month in the homes of members.
La Noche de Familia
Every two months we invite our Latino friends in the community to join
us for a potluck supper, fellowship and programs of specific interest
to them. These evenings are rotated between Incarnation, Highlands United
Methodist Church and First Presbyterian Church. They are usually scheduled
for a Sunday evening. In 2003, as an outgrowth of these Las Noches,
Incarnation gave a Cinco de Mayo celebration at the Highlands Conference
Center which was attended by 175 people who enjoyed dinner, music, raffles
and door prizes which had been contributed by businesses and individuals
in the community.
