PARISH POST NEWS
Rector's
Message
RECTOR’S MESSAGE
The same could easily
be said about our parish. This fresh feeling is proliferating
throughout our parish:
The new Director of the
Music – Fletcher Wolfe (see article pg. 4)
Our summer members
returning home – Welcome Home Party (pg. 2 )
The new families joining –
Newcomers Party (pg. 2 )
The new singles ministry
started for Highlands community (pg. 2 )
Fine Arts Committee and a pipe organ?
(pg. 4 )
The Quiet Retreat (pg. 8 ) planned for
the first weekend in December
A Pilgrimage to Iona, Scotland in the
Fall of 2006 (pg. 3 )
Centering Prayer in the Chapel (pg.8 )
It is all very exciting and
titillating. However while the new is great, the past is where we are
grounded. This past month has brought to light how important it is to
remember those who have made all this possible. Incarnation has an
incredibly rich heritage. As we celebrated the life of one of our
matriarchs, Margaret Hall and two very incredible members Winnie Jobbins
and Mary Alice Duncan, I was reminded again of how many people it takes
to keep our community alive and flourishing. We are only here for a
short time, and this church (the body of Christ expressed through
Incarnation) has been, and will be here for a long time.
My question to all of
you is how do we want Incarnation to be known in the next decade or so?
And MOST importantly what gifts can you give to provide that identity?
[As you ponder
these questions, keep in mind the first letter Paul wrote to his
brother’s and sisters in Corinth. At the crux of the letter (Chapter
12) he tells us what being a church is all about.]
Vestry Meeting May
11, 2005 Notes
The following information is gleaned
from the minutes of the May Vestry Meeting. Full minutes of the meeting
as well as copies of all attachments as usual are available for your
reading in the parish library in the labeled notebook.
Pat Parker and Barbara Roberts,
representing the kitchen committee, made the vestry aware of several
minor problems regarding the kitchen. They also encouraged kitchen
training for each vestry member. The vestry unanimously agreed to adopt
a policy immediately that nothing from the kitchen be made available to
loan to anyone.
The Rector’s report included the following: the status of his home sale
has not changed, the choir is progressing and Winifred Jobbins passed
away today.
Bill Nolan has been invited to present
information to vestry at a meeting mid June or early July on planned
giving.
Parish Retreat for 2006 has been scheduled for May 5-7 at Lake Logan.
The first choir practice will be held
May 25. A fine arts committee has been established.
Gerry Doubleday is working on membership
list for stewardship campaign.
Edna Foster & Pat Parker are new
co-chairs of the caring committee.
Andrea Chalker and Georgia Sanders will be taking over the Parish Post.
Chris Alley reported that the IFC has
received a large grant from the community foundation of WNC. El Mercado
will be June 18 at the Methodist Church.
Fr. Sullivan reminded the vestry that the financial statements will be
reviewed at June vestry meeting.

Pastoral Care
Committee
At our last
Pastoral Care meeting, Father Sullivan suggested that the task of
providing loving support for each other at Incarnation be divided up
among the committee so you will know whom to call. We need help ---
helping others. Following members are points of contact for the services
described:
Edna Foster- I will be
your contact for the prayer chain. We have 9 pray-ers who will pass on
your prayer requests on an almost daily basis. There are also 10 women
(no men-yet) who receive the prayer list and are committed to saying
daily prayers for you but do not receive the calls. We could certainly
use more of you to hold up these needs in prayer. Please call me if you
have a need, or if you want to help us with the work of prayer. Edna
Foster 526-9172
Helen Moore- Volunteers
are always welcomed and always needed for visits at the Fedelia Echerd
Center, and often at the Highlands Cashiers Hospital. I will be happy to
go with you and introduce you to some of the wonderful residents there.
Helen Moore 526-0727
Robert Goddard- Please
call me for home visitation, or transportation. If you know someone who
needs a home visit, or you would like to help go visit our friends who
can't get out, please call me. Also, if anyone needs assistance with
transportation, such as, for a doctors visit or to church, please call.
Again if you would like to help with this ministry, give me a call.
Robert Goddard 743-2788
Elinor Metzger- Pastoral
Care is always ready to provide meals for any of our friends who are
sick, just home from the hospital or bereaved. If you would be willing
to help provide meals, please call me. Please let me know if we can be
of help in any way. Elinor Metzger 526-927
A huge Thank You to all
who responded so generously with food this past month. We have GREAT
cooks in this Parish!!! The Pastoral Care committee meets on the 3rd
Thursday of each month at 4PM in Jones Hall. Please come join us in
caring for our Incarnation Family.
Pat Parker- Chair-

Pilgrimage to Iona,
Scotland
Those of you who participated in the Wednesday
Supper May 18th saw the video about Iona (available in the
Library). We are planning a pilgrimage to this sacred Isle on the west
coast of Scotland in the Fall of 2006. A group will be getting together
to plan the details. The basic format is to grab a group of
friends/parishioners, travel freely through Scotland, and meet at Iona
for an extended retreat. If you are interested in planning this trip
call Fr. Sullivan.
WELCOME NEW MEMBERS
We welcome the following new members into our parish family:
Evelyn Craig Edmondson
from St. Martins-In-The-Fields, Atlanta
Dwight D. Underhill,
transferring from First Presbyterian Church,
Columbia, South Carolina
Please seek these persons out and
personally welcome them into our midst.
New Director of
Music...
Most of you have heard the news by now. We have a
new Director of Music, Mr. Fletcher Wolfe. He has been a member of
Incarnation as a seasonal member. However, recently he has decided to
hang his hat more permanently among us. After approaching Joanne Rainey
about helping with the Prelude (music series ). She began meeting
with Fletcher to find names for this event. Along the way we started
having lunch and Fletcher mentioned his interest in helping with the
choir (however, it may have taken a little coaxing, my memory is a
little foggy...)
One thing has led to another, and we have a two
time Grammy winner, the founder and director of The Atlanta Boy Choir of
45 years, the list goes on an on....
Now what? We NEED
YOUR VOICE!!!
Don’t worry about not knowing how to read music, or
thinking you can’t sing. If you have ever even thought about singing in
a choir, this is your chance! When will the next opportunity arise to
work with such a talented musical icon? As a sign of my dedication, I,
as your rector, am joining the choir! I will walk the walk and sing the
song. See you Wednesdays at 6:30 in the new church nave, and Sundays at
9:45. OH and as EXTRA INCENTIVE, those of you who use Sunday School as
an excuse, we have moved the time of Sunday School to 9:00!

Library Notes
After the blessing of the Library and open house on Sunday, May 22, we
hope many more of you are aware of the great selection of books we have
on hand right here at Incarnation. In the notebook on the table are
lists of books both by author and category. A list by subject is in the
works.
While our collection is broad, we
are interested in improving it over time. Please make suggestions of
books you think should be added. If you would like to donate books,
please consult the guidelines below.
Contact Elinor Metzger, Helen Moore, Mary Lou
Worley, or Avary Doubleday if you have questions about possible
donations.
Guidelines for
Donations to the Incarnation Library:
Library materials include books, audio tapes, video
tapes, compact disks, and DVDs, which are appropriate to be checked out
or used in the library. Materials are of a religious nature.
1. The Acquisition
subcommittee maintains a list of materials which the library would like
to acquire. Those wishing to purchase a book from this list for donation
to the library should contact a member of the committee.
2. Other materials listed
above may be donated to the library. These materials should be in good
condition and of current interest or “classic.” Books should not contain
underlining or highlighting. Please leave your name with donated items.
If there are too many to fit into the box marked “Donations,” please
contact Avary Doubleday (526-8414). We don’t want boxes and bags of
books just left around the library.
3. The Library Committee will
determine whether to keep donated items or to dispose of them, generally
by giving them to the Bookworm (used book store of the Hudson Library)
or to the Friends of the Library Bookstore in Franklin.
4. The Library will not

Bookstore in Franklin will be happy to have books and related items.
For donations of items
such as artwork, crosses, pictures, and other furnishings, contact the
Furnishings Committee, Millie Toussaint, Chair.
